Emily yelled, 'Franzi!' and ran to the kitchen door. It was bolted shut by all the rubble inside.
Emily yelled again, 'Franzi!? Franzi, where are you!? Franzi, say something!' When she saw Franzi's foot, Emily yelled, 'Franzi, I'm here! Franzi! You can't abandon me now, you hear me?'
Trying to get Franzi to say something, Emily got a cloth and pushed on the pile of debris but with no luck whatsoever. When she got frustrated, she yelled at Franzi that help was on the way. The only people Emily could call was Paula, John, or Phillip. They were already looking for her and Franzi. When they made it to Mocca, Tim said he hadn't seen them all night. John's cell phone rang and the caller id said it was Emily.
John said, 'Emily? Where are you?'
Emily popped out, 'John you have to get here fast! It's burning here!'
John stuttered, 'What, what, what, what? Ww.....where are you?'
Emily said, 'Something exploded here in the kitchen! Please get here fast!'
John asked, 'What? Where are you? In what kitchen?'
Phillip asked, 'What is it?'
Emily said, 'The whole kitchen exploded and Franzi is still in there!'
John said, 'Emily, listen to me. Where are you two? Where are you? Where is the fire?'
Emily answered, 'We're in The Fasan. Nothing happened to me.'
John passed on 'The Fasan' to Phillip and Paula.
Emily begged, 'Please John, get here fast! Please John. Franzi is still in there and I can't get her out of there!'
John told Phillip to call the fire department but Paula was all about her own business. She heard that Franzi and Emily were in trouble and that's all she knew. The woman made like a raging stampede at the Indy 500. By the time they all made it to The Fasan, Emily was trying to unlock the rear doors. Paula didn't care how dangerous it was inside. Smoke inhalation, second degree burns, dying; it all went out the door and she barged inside. Paula had her jacket soaked in water to protect herself and Franzi. When Paula got inside, she got to calling for Franzi.
Paula yelled, 'Franzi! Franzi! I am here! Franzi! Franzi, where are you!? Franzi!' Then she found Franzi buried under all the wreckage in the kitchen. Fighting her way towards Franzi, Paula kept talking to her as if Franzi could still hear her.
Paula said, 'Franzi! It's me! I'm here. Hey, Franzi!' Angry over everything that was going on, Paula let out every hell, shit, and damnit in her mouth. 'Franzi, do you hear me? Get up!' When she got to Franzi's body, she checked her pulse and her heartbeat and said, 'Hey! Do you hear me? Shit.' Then she administered Mouth-to-Mouth resuscitation and cleared anything from over Franzi so she could move. Paula said, 'Help is coming in a few minutes. They'll be here in a few minutes. Shit.' Franzi's legs were pinned down and could not be moved so Paula kept doing CPR and talking to Franzi. Paula yelled out, 'C'mon now! We're in the kitchen!' The firemen were scoping out how to get into the building without it collapsing on them or Paula and Franzi. But this only made Paula more mad and lose the time. 'Damnit, where are they?'
Moving her attention all over to Franzi, Paula toned her voice down and said, 'Hey, Franzi, please. We'll make it. I know it. I know it. Everything will be alright. And we will be together. Everyday. We'll do trips with the scooters like we used to. Do you remember? Last summer?' Squeezing Franzi's hand, Paula said, 'You've been so crazy. You did all kinds of things.' When the roof sounded like it was buckling, Paula tore her jacket to cover their heads. 'Franzi.' Then there was a pause and Paula finished, 'I Love You.'
Looking onto Franzi's face, rubbing Franzi's cheek, and waiting for Franzi to wake up. Paula just kept repeating 'Please'. Then she kissed the backside of Franzi's hand and Franzi let out one breath. Paula heard Franzi breathe and said, 'Franzi.'
Franzi opened her eyes to see Paula smiling and said, 'Paula....'
Paula nodded and said, 'Yes.
