"Hey babe, I got a seat right here for you"
"Naw, sit with me toots."
"Never mind them, I got what you need right here" the male voices all blended together.
Sam raised her sunglasses and watched while a long legged brunette tried to weave her way through the various groping hands of the men seated by the pool. Grimacing, she lowered her glasses back down dismissing them as harmless and besides, the brunette looked like she could take care of herself.
Moments later she heard a female voice by her side, "Excuse me, is this lounger available?" Sam looked up into the eyes of the same woman she had glanced at before. "Yes, certainly. You're welcome to it," Sam said, laying her head back down.
"Thanks, I thought there might be saftey in numbers," the brunette chuckled causing Sam to smile and turn to face the woman.
"They won't bother you here, I set a couple of them straight yesterday and believe me they won't come anywhere near here now." Sam said grinning. "I'm Sam, welcome to the neighborhood."
"Jennifer!" responded the brunette. "Nice place you have here" she said tongue-in-cheek indicating the pool area of the resort they were both in.
"You should see my big house!" Sam joked. "Are you here on business or vacation?" she asked.
Jennifer poured some sun block on her arms, spreading it liberally. "Vacation, definitely vacation. I'm between assignments. You?" she asked the beautiful blonde.
"Same, a 2 week, get away from it all, no contact with work, vacation!" she finished happily.
Jennifer offered her sunblock to Sam, "Want some?"
"Yeah thanks, mine has probably worn off by now." she said as she poured some onto her exposed skin before passing back.the bottle. Jennifer tucked the bottle back in her tote and laid back to relax.
"If you notice I fall asleep, do me a favour and wake me before I go nova?" Jennifer asked Sam, who nodded.
"Sure I'll make sure you don't burn," Sam laughed and they both laid back to enjoy the sun for an hour or so.
It seemed like minutes later and Sam felt a hand on her shoulder rocking her gently. "Hey sleepy head, unless you really want to look like a lobster, it's time to wake up."
"Huh?", Sam said coming fully awake. She took in the situation in an instant and realized she had fallen asleep. She looked at Jennifer sheepishly, who was getting ready to leave."Sorry, a lot of help I was for you. Thanks for waking me."
"You looked like you could use the sleep so I dragged the umbrella over you so you wouldn't burn." Jennifer shrugged. "No big deal"
It was only then that Sam noticed the pool umbrella that was positioned behind her to cast a long shadow over her body, protecting her from the Sun's rays. "Good thinking!" she said praising Jennifer, who blushed. "Have you got any dinner plans?" Sam asked impulsively.
Jennifer looked at her for a moment before smiling, "Nope! You?" she asked smiling.
"I do now. Com'on, I'll buy you dinner for saving me from a fate worst then death!" Sam joked.
"Sure but you don't have to buy," Jennifer said.
Sam looked at the well toned woman sincerely, "It's the least I can do, meet me downstairs in an hour?" Sam asked.
"Okay, see you then," Jennifer said walking away smiling.
Jennifer took her time dressing for dinner, she wanted to make a good impression on Sam but she hadn't brought anything fancy so her best jeans would have to do. She combed out her shoulder length brown hair trying to tame the natural curls which gave her hair a lot of body and bounce. She didn't think Sam realized she was gay but she was still vain enough to want to knock her hetero socks off. She had spotted the blue eyed blonde immediately when she entered the pool area earlier this afternoon. Her eyes had been drawn to the solitary figure sunbathing across the pool and luckily there was a lounger available beside her so it was a good opportunity to get a better look. Luck was with her when Sam had fallen asleep, giving her the perfect opportunity to study her profile leisurely. She had been trying to think of some clever way to meet Sam for a drink later when the blonde had surprised her with the dinner invitation. Jennifer gave herself a last once over after attaching her earings then headed out to the bar.
Sam was sitting at the bar, waiting for her dinner companion. She had surprised herself when she had impulsively invited Jennifer to join her since she usually ate alone but hell, she was on vacation and she could do what she wanted. She hadn't made any plans other than to relax and was worry free for the first time in a long time. She really needed this break from work so she would have a fresh perspective when she returned. Sam was debating on whether to order a drink when she spotted Jennifer entering from the lobby. She lifted her hand to get her attention.
"Hi," Jennifer said, "Am I late?" she asked checking her watch.
"No I was early. I'm not used to having so much free time so I was ready a long time ago. Do you want a drink before dinner?" Sam asked smiling.
"I wouldn't turn down a beer" Jennifer said, "unless you would prefer wine or something else." she amended quickly.
Sam grinned, "No a beer sounds great", she said placing their order with the bartender.
They sipped their beer and discussed the usual frivalous topics, the weather, transportation troubles from the airport then as their conversation progressed they found that they had a lot in common. They were both well versed on the current political situation and could argue inteligently about a wide range of topics. By mutual consent they kept their conversations impersonal and light in keeping with their vacation staus. "So what do your bosses pay you for?" Jennifer asked Sam, curious about the job she must do.
"Hmmm, Primarily for my scientific abilities I would say. What about you? What do you do?" Sam asked sipping her second beer.
"I'm a supervisor." Jennifer said vaguely changing the subject."Shall we go eat now?" she said rising.
They enjoyed their dinner and conversation and by the end of it found they had each made a new friend. Sam payed the check and both women decided to call it a night. "Sorry for the early night," Sam said, "but I'm usually up first light with my job and I don't want to break that routine during my vacation."
"Actually me too so this works for me!" Jennifer said. "Are you busy tomorrow?
