At the same time Daniel was with Paula and Franzi, Emily went to her therapist and started to resist opening up. Coming up with ways to burn herself at the stake, it was like somebody was looking at herself and yelling obscenities. Daniel was getting tea for Paula and Franzi so Philip filled in for him and Emily.
Emily said, 'I wanted to be a professional model.'
Emily's therapist, Dr. Caan said, 'Your brothers tell me you were quite good.'
Emily said, 'Yes. Did they leave out the best part; where one of them busted a shooting by spying on the models using cocaine? And then by posting my picture in an article about drugs in the modeling industry?' Emily said this looking at Philip.
Philip defended himself and John by saying, 'Emily. John was trying to save you from killing yourself with that shit.'
Emily said, 'Oh. So if I make a mistake, he has to publish it for my own good?! Is that what you're saying, Philip?'
Philip stood and said, 'He didn't think it all through. He just acted like any big brother would have. If he loved you any more, he would've stomped onto the shooting, busted the cameras, and tear those people apart with his bare hands. And you know nobody could stop him from doing that!'
Dr. Caan intervened and said, 'Let's take a step back a minute here, Philip?' Philip paced and turned twice then sat down. Then Dr. Caan said, 'Okay, Emily. You tried modeling. What happened?'
Emily answered, 'I got up on stage with these women and a shit brained photographer. No matter how hard I tried, he just wouldn't let up on me. Finally, he sent me off stage.'
Dr. Caan asked, 'Then what?'
Emily said, 'My friend, Kim, she....she gave me some to help me ease up for a shoot.' Philip exhaled in disgust. He couldn't get how Emily got so mixed up in this.
Dr. Caan asked, 'This was your first time?'
Emily contemptuously answered, 'Yes.'
Dr. Caan asked, 'And what was it like?'
Emily said, 'I was on fire the whole time the camera was on me and I didn't want it to stop.'
Philip thought, 'So this is how you get the 15 minutes of fame' and stayed silent.
Emily and Dr. Caan went over how drugs effect people and their lives. Emily was already aware of the "effects" and the consequences to a very large degree.
Emily said, 'There really is nothing you can say to me that I'm not already screaming to myself inside my brain. I know what I did and I know what happened.' But this was just a mild version of what Emily's conscience was saying.
Sitting quietly, Emily thought 'YOU PUT HER IN THERE! YOU'RE THE ONE THAT SHOULD'VE BURNED! WHAT THE FUCK WERE YOU THINKING?! DID YOU EVEN CONSIDER THAT THERE MIGHT BE SUCH A THING AS CON SEE QUEN CESSSSS!? WELL HERE THEY ARE! Franzi is in the hospital, you have a record, and now....YOU HAVE NOTHING LEFT TO LOSE! IS ANY OF THIS GETTING THROUGH?!'
Dr. Caan asked, 'Emily? What are you thinking now?' Emily looked at him and then looked in herself. 'Emily?'
The human conscience can do much worse things than another human being. And Emily's was screaming and torturing her from the inside with no mercy and no restraints.
Emily answered, 'I think I'm getting tired of hearing you ask me what I'm thinking. Okay? It is getting very old and very annoying to hear you say the same question everytime I change my face or go quiet or take a minute to think to myself.'
Philip said, 'Emily.'
Emily snapped, 'Be quiet, Philip! I spilled my beans for this guy and now he wants to know what I'm thinking for every facial expression? What does that sounds like to you?'
Philip answered, 'It sounds like somebody who knows the difference between admitting a mistake and living with it! It sounds like somebody needs to learn that she is not immune when it comes to treating people with respect! And it sounds like you're the one who told me that I was dead to you and that we, YOUR BROTHERS, needed to "fuck off"! And if you don't realize any of that right now, then there really is no point to us being here. And you know what, I don't give a damn.' With that being said, Philip walked out the door and left Emily alone with her therapist.
Emily didn't expect Philip to snap back at her. But he wasn't there for his own health or to be her punching bag. The man had feeling and he didn't appreciate her stepping on them simply because she was the victim of drug use. Philip's words left Emily and Dr. Caan stunned.
In response, Dr. Caan said, 'Let's take a moment to collect ourselves.' All this meant was a little bit of silence. Emily covered the left side of her face with her hand and looked at the carpet.
In the waiting room, Philip remembered the session and had Linkin Park's "In The End" and "Breaking The Habit" rolling in his mind. It was like a music video from the psycho ward and Philip could on say 'Fuck' under his quiet angry voice.
Back in therapy, Dr. Caan said, 'Now, we were talking about you modeling while using cocaine.'
Emily sniffed back her tears and said, 'Yes.' She didn't have the heart to look the doctor in the eyes so she just looked at the carpet.
Dr. Caan asked, 'Do you know why you took for the first time; from a friend nonetheless?'
Emily said, 'I just wanted to go pro.' Her voice was empty and hollow with her showing no signs of life.
